NazareX Team 2340
Welcome to the 2009- 2010 NazareX robotics homepage! We are in our third season with FIRST, and we are very excited about our newest game challenge called “Breakaway”.
HOT OFF THE PRESS!!
February 13th, 2010:
Winter break has FINALLY begun! Our ever faithful Naz girls, however, instead of lazily lying in bed, promptly arrive for a Robotics meeting and set to work, eager to finish whatever they had previously started. The software and electrical team work with their tools, using their keen expertise to work with the pneumatics; the mechanical team give their hands another set of fresh calluses with all of their drilling and hammering; all the teams band together to complete their true goal: finish the robot on time. True teamwork, down to the very last screw.
February 6th, 2010:
The NazareX girls stand strong through yet another meeting. But this one is different. This meeting is one that has occurred at a turning point in every girl’s life, during a tumultuous time when they’re left wondering what will come next, and how they will handle it. The news that their beloved school, Nazareth Academy, will be closing, was just about the most heartbreaking thing ever. But, as many know, life must go on, and these girls see this as true. They return to their meeting place at the set time, do their work, and laugh and smile the entire time. They won’t let this one moment of unforeseen pain let them lose sight of their robotics goals, and will not stop until the last screw is… well…. screwed. These girls are tougher than they look, and they’re going to prove it.
January 30th, 2010:
Cold. It was very, very cold. But the NazareX team kept warm by working hard and staying strong, determined to make this robot simply amazing. Ideas were drawn up, designs were tested, and one certain member achieved a task she was quite a bit proud of (no name stated, but you know who I mean). The team enjoyed a lovely bonding moment over lunch and then went back to their respective jobs, more determined than ever to do this right. So, by the end of the meeting, it wasn’t that cold anymore.
January 23rd, 2010:
Another day, another meeting. The chassis team redesigned their work once more; trying to fix the chassis they had built previously to fit the recommendations for the design team. The electrical team faced their share of problems, but overcame with flying colours. And, to brighten the day that much more, the buttons were done, just in time to print off a new set and get to work. What a wonderful dayJ.
January 16, 2010:
Week one, gone. About five more to go. After a few days of planning and debating, the NazareX team broke into their predetermined sects and went to work, thinking up chassis ideas, game ideas, and the normal build seasons basics. It’s all still a bit tentative, and the team is weighing the pros and cons with every big decision. When the day ended, the chassis was finished, ready to test. The buttons were being designed with steadfast talent and speed. Last year’s robot can run wirelessly now. The control board sat ready, freshly finished. And lunch that day wasn’t half bad either.
January 9, 2010:
Kickoff!!!!! Finally, the day we have ALL been waiting for. We sat through about a good hour of talking, taking notes in between of whatever we saw as relevant, laughed when appropriate, and applauded like animals when the time was right. FINALLY, they announced the game. Oh, and what a game it shall be. Named “Breakaway”, for reasons that to me are unknown, the game, once again, had the audience in awe: A soccer ball? Bumps on the field? Goals? We absorbed this info like sponges, and our brains began working before the rules were even out of Dean’s mouth. How to build it; what to build; and how to make it all work without breaking a single rule. This one is gonna be fun.
